Williams Leads Alvernia on Day One of Spartan Invitational

York, Pa. (Oct. 19, 2025) - Shawn Williams posted a round of 6-over 78 to lead Alvernia to a team score of 332 on day one of the York College Spartan Invitational at Royal Manchester Golf Links on Sunday.

Williams is in a three-way tie for eighth place with his round of 78. Goucher's Tyler Lynch leads the field with a round of 2-over 74. Six players are in a tie for second at 5-over 77.

Alvernia posted a team score of 332 and the Golden Wolves are in seventh place in the field of eight teams.

Williams played the front nine at 3-over with six birdies. He then had a clean card through the first seven holes of the back nine to remain at 3-over. But, he found trouble on the final two holes with a bogey on the 17th and a double on the 18th to finish at 6-over.

Chase Smith finished in second for Alvernia and is in a tie for 16th overall with a round of 81. Smith played the front nine at 3-over with seven pars. He then followed that with a five par performance on the back nine for his round of 81.

Jacob DeWitt is in a tie for 37th with a round of 14-over 86. DeWitt finished his day with eight pars.

Zachary Neuin and Matthew Overholt each finished with rounds of 87 and are in a tie for 40th.Overholt had Alvernia's lone birdie of the day, posting a three on the opening par four 1st hole. Overholt finished with six pars on the day as well. Neuin finished his day with six pars.

Alvernia is back in action at Royal Manchester on Monday for the second and final round of the Spartan Invitational.
