Golden Wolves Go 1-1 Over the Weekend

Reading, Pa (February 20, 2025) - Alvernia University Men's Club Ice Hockey (7-8-2, 3-1) recorded a 12-1 victory over Widener University on Friday but then dropped a DVCHC matchup to Salisbury University, 8-5, on Saturday night. 

Widener: 1, Alvernia: 12

How it Happened 
  • The Golden Wolves opened up the scoring in the first two minutes of the first period after Dominic Garcia found the back of the net to give Alvernia a 1-0 lead. 
  • Alvernia then tallied three goals in the final three minutes of the first period to take a 4-0 lead into the first intermission. Brendan Fergus netted the first goal of the stretch and then tallied a second goal just 24 seconds later. Ben Maurer capped the period off with a goal with just over a minute to play in the period to make it a four goal Alvernia lead. 
  • The Golden Wolves then pushed the lead to 7-0 after three goals in the first ten minutes of the second period. Christopher Claycomb got things going with an unassisted goal and then Maurer followed him up with his second goal of the game to make it 6-0. Jimmy Sparacio put the puck into the back of the net with just under 11 to go in the period to give the Golden Wolves a seven goal lead. 
  • Alvernia continued to score in spells, netting four more goals in the final five minutes of the second period to take a commanding, 11-0 lead after two periods. Sparacio netted his second of the game and then John Bellantoni followed him up with an unassisted goal. Claycomb then rounded out his second period hat trick with two goals in the final two minutes. 
  • Widener got on the board in the first minute of the third period to make it a 11-1 game. 
  • The Golden Wolves capped off the 12-1 victory with a goal by Garcia in the final eight minutes of the contest to secure the 12-1 victory over the Pride.

How it Happened 
  • Salisbury came out strong in the first period and jumped out to a 4-0 lead over the Golden Wolves after the first 20 minutes of play. 
  • Salisbury then pushed the lead to seven after netting all three goals in the second period to make it a 7-0 game heading into the final intermission. 
  • The Golden Wolves came flying back in the final period with two goals in the first ten minutes of the period after Bryan Pilpel and Logan Buch netted goals to make it 7-2. 
  • Alvernia then found the back of the net two more times in the next four minutes thanks to another Buch goal and a Jimmy Sparacio goal made it a 7-4 game. 
  • Salisbury found one more insurance goal in the final two minutes on a power play to push it to an 8-4 lead. 
  • Pilpel put the puck in the back of the net in the final 20 seconds of the game but it was not enough as Salisbury recorded the 8-5 victory over the Golden Wolves.
