Alvernia Men’s Club Ice Hockey Claims DVCHC American Title


Aston, Pa (March 6, 2025) - Alvernia University Men's Club Ice Hockey went 2-0 over the weekend and secured its second DVCHC American Division title in a row and its third title in four years. 

The Golden Wolves took down Bloomsburg University, 10-5, in the DVCHC semifinal and then secured the title with a 9-1 victory over Salisbury in the championship game. 

Game 1: Bloomsburg: 5, Alvernia 10

How it Happened 
  • Alvernia grabbed the lead just 19 seconds into the first period after Christopher Claycomb assisted Logan Buch to put the Golden Wolves up 1-0. 
  • The Huskies responded with two goals in the next five minutes to swing the lead in their favor, 2-1. 
  • Alvernia's Vaughn Winter leveled the score with 12 minutes to go in the first period after he netted an unassisted goal to make it 2-2. 
  • Bloomsburg netted the final goal of the period with 11 minutes to go in the first and took a 3-2 advantage into the second period. 
  • Alvernia came out of the first intermission and netted a power play goal in the first five minutes after TJ Sinchak found the back of the net to tie it at three but the Huskies then responded with a short handed goal just 41 seconds later to make it a 4-3 game. 
  • The Golden Wolves flipped the lead back in their favor with two goals in the next ten minutes after Buch netted his second and Ben Maurer found the back of the net to put Alvernia in the lead, 5-4. 
  • The Huskies tallied their second goal of the period in the final five minutes of the second period to level the score at five heading into the final intermission. 
  • The Golden Wolves came out of the second intermission and grabbed the lead just one minute and 35 seconds into the period after Dominic Garcia assisted Bryan Pilpel to put Alvernia up 6-5. 
  • Alvernia then sealed the victory with four more goals in the final seven minutes of the period to secure the 10-5 victory and punch its ticket into the championship game. 

Inside the Box Score
  • Logan Buch led the way with five points and tallied two goals and three assists. 
  • Christopher Claycomb followed with four points off a goal and three assists and Ben Maurer netted two goals and added an assist. 
  • Bryan Pilpel and TJ Sinchak both tallied two points each with Pilpel netting two goals and Sinchak recorded a goal and an assist. 
  • Jackson Lesko recorded 35 saves in net for the Golden Wolves. 

Game 2: Salisbury: 1, Alvernia 9

How it Happened
  • The Golden Wolves jumped into the lead in the first period after a Logan Buch within the first ten minutes of the first period put the Golden Wolves up 1-0. 
  • Brendan Fergus followed Buch just three minutes later with an unassisted goal to make it a 2-0 game heading into the second period.
  • Salisbury came out of the intermission and grabbed one back in the first four minutes of the second period to make it a 2-1 game. 
  • Alvernia bounced back with six unanswered goals to round out the period and extend its lead to 8-1. Christopher Claycomb netted three goals in the period, Buch added two of his own and John Bellantoni added the final goal of the period as Alvernia took a seven goal, 8-1 advantage into the final intermission. 
  • Alvernia would tack on one more insurance goal in the third period after Dominic Garcia found the back of the net to secure the 9-1 victory over Salisbury and secure the 2025 DVCHC title. 

Inside the Box Score
  • Christopher Claycomb led the way for Alvernia with five points and tallied three goals and two assists. 
  • Logan Buch and John Bellantoni both recorded four points with Buch netting three goals and added an assist and Bellantoni scored one goal and dished out three assists. 
  • Both Ben Maurer and TJ Sinchak added two points for the Golden Wolves, both recorded two assists. 
  • Carson Lopez recorded 48 saves in the victory and earned the win in net.

  • Alvernia is back in action on the weekend of March 21-23 for the AAU DIII Men's Club Ice Hockey National tournament. The Golden Wolves take on Liberty University on Friday in game one.
