Golden Wolves in Third After Day One of the Long Island Invitational

Long Island, NY (April 18, 2025) - Jackson Hoovler led Alvernia and the field during day one of the St. Joseph's Long Island Invitational at Bellport Golf Club on Long Island, New York on Friday.

Hoovler fired a first-round score of 3-over 74 to lead the Golden Wolves and the field of 38 golfers. Hoovler's 74 paced Alvernia to a team score of 316 and has Alvernia in a tie for third place heading into Saturday's second and final round. Hoovler holds a one stroke lead over Chad Maurer of Arcadia and Luke Sargent of Nichols. The Golden Wolves are nine strokes back of Arcadia, who led day one with a team score of 307. 

Hoovler started his day with three straight pars before going 3-over over the next three holes. He closed out the front nine with back-to-back pars to make the turn at 3-over. After a bogey on the par three 10th, Hoovler picked up a stroke with a birdie on the 11th. He then bogeyed the 12th before a par on the par five 13th. He played the remaining stretch of holes at even par, and posted his third birdie of the back nine on the 16th. Hoovler played the entire back nine at even for his round of 3-over 74.

Shawn Williams finished second for Alvernia and is in a tie for fourth overall with a round of 5-over 76 on Friday. Williams was back-and-forth through his first three holes of the afternoon, going bogey-birdie-bogey. He carded a par on the fourth and went bogey-birdie on the fifth and sixth holes, respectively. After two straight pars, he bogeyed the ninth to make the turn at 2-over. Williams then posted a par to open up the back nine on the 10th hole, and posted a birdie on the par four 11th. But, he closed out his round with bogeys on four of the remaining seven holes to play the back nine at 3-over and card a first round score of 76.

Jakob Chapman was Alvernia's third counting score of the day. Chapman is in a tie for 17th overall with a round of 11-over 82. After a rough start to the front nine, Chapman settled in on the back nine. He got the back stretch going with a birdie on the 10th. After a tough middle stretch, Chapman played the final five holes at even par with three pars and a birdie on the 16th. He carded a 2-over on the back nine for his round of 82.

Matthew Gagliardi was Alvernia's final counting score of the day. Gagliardi posted an 84 on Friday and is in a tie for 20th place. He finished his first round with a birdie on the eighth, and had six total pars on the day.

Kenton Lightburn is in a tie for 20th with Gagliardi with a round of 84, but is playing as an individual for Alvernia this weekend. Lightburn's round was highlighted by a birdie on the fifth and six pars on the afternoon.

Matt Davies finished as Alvernia's fifth and is in a tie for 25th overall with a round of 87. Davies had two birdies on the front nine and finished his round with five pars.

Alvernia is back at Bellport tomorrow for the second and final day of the St. Joseph's Long Island Invitational.
