Hoovler Takes First, Alvernia Second at St. Joseph’s Invitational

Long Island, NY (Apr. 19, 2025) - Alvernia Men's Golf senior Jackson Hoovler took low-medalist honors and led Alvernia to a second place finish at the St. Joseph's Long Island Invitational on Saturday at Bellport Golf Club on Long Island.

Hoovler led the field entering Saturday after a day one score of 3-over 74. Hoovler then fired a 1-under 70 on Saturday to take first place with a two-day total of 144. Hoovler took first by a commanding seven strokes. 

Hoovler's two-day total of 144 led Alvernia to a second place finish with a two-day team score of 617. The Golden Wolves improved their first day score by 15 strokes to jump up a spot on the leaderboard and take second overall. Alvernia finished six strokes behind Arcadia, who took home team honors.

Hoovler carded nine straight pars to finish the front nine with a clean card and make the turn at even par. He then posted two more pars before his first and only bogey of the day on the 12th. Hoovler picked the stroke back up and then some with an eagle on the par five 13th hole. He then finished his round with five more pars to finish the day with a 1-under 70.

Shawn Williams finished in a tie for second overall with a two-day total of 151. Hoovler posted a second round score of 75 to improve by one stroke from day one. Williams started his day with a double on the first before settling in. Following a par on the second hole, Williams moved back to 1-over on the day with a birdie on the par four third hole. He then moved back to even par with a birdie on the par four sixth. Williams then made the turn at 2-over following two bogeys. Williams then played the back nine at 2-over as well, but finished strong with a birdie on the 18th.

Jakob Chapman finished as Alvernia's third and took t-13th overall with a two-day total of 158. Chapman had a six stroke improvement from day one with a second day score of 76. Chapman played the front nine 4-over, and carded a birdie on the par four fifth. He opened the back nine with a birdie on the par three tenth, and closed out his round with a birdie on the 18th.

Matthew Gagliardi was Alvernia's final counting score of the day. Gagliardi took 19th with a two-day total of 164. Gagliardi improved four strokes from day one with a second day score of 80. Gagliardi's round was highlighted by birdies on the par four ninth and par five 16th. He also had seven pars on his round.

Matt Davies finished as Alvernia's fifth and took t-25th overall with a two-day score of 171. Davies' round was highlighted by two back-nine birdies and four total pars on his round.

Kenton Lightburn played as an individual for Alvernia and took t-22nd overall with a two-day total of 170. Lightburn had six total pars on his round and birdied the par four fifth.

Today marked Alvernia's final tournament before the MAC Commonwealth Championship at Golden Oaks Golf Club beginning on Saturday, May 3rd.
