Offensive Explosion Leads Golden Wolves Past Lions, 22-11

Reading, Pa (April 8, 2025) - Alvernia University (17-11) had five players drive in two or more runs en route to a 22-11 slugfest victory over The College of New Jersey (16-9) Tuesday afternoon in a non-conference baseball clash in Angelica Park.

RJ Emrich drove in six runs and Logan Nelson added five more RBI's as the Golden Wolves' offense came alive to plate a season high 22 runs and took down TCNJ by a score of 22-11.

The Golden Wolves have recorded 13 or more runs in the last three victories over the Lions.

How it Happened
  • The Lions struck first in the top of the opening frame after an RBI double to right center scored a run and gave them a 1-0 lead.
  • The Golden Wolves responded with three runs in the bottom half of the inning after Quincy Esannason scored thanks to a wild pitch and Timmy Hitchcock singled through the right side to score Logan Nelson and make it 2-1. Jack Zabarsky then scored via a TCNJ error that gave the Golden Wolves a 3-1 lead.
  • TCNJ pulled one back in the second inning thanks to a sacrifice fly to center to cut it to a 3-2 ballgame.
  • Alvernia got that run back in the bottom of the third inning after Joe Glass singled through the right side and scored Zabarsky to make it 4-2 Alvernia.
  • The Lions leveled the score up at four in the fourth after an RBI single and a stolen base plated two runs and tied it up at four a piece.
  • Alvernia bounced back with a six spot in the home half of the fourth to regain the lead and make it a 10-4 ballgame. Nelson started things off with a two RBI single up the middle and then Hitchcock worked a bases loaded walk to force in another run and make it 7-4.
  • Glass then singled down the right field line to score a run and RJ Emrich followed him up with a two RBI single through the right side to push the lead to six, 10-4.
  • Alvernia pushed it to a seven run, 11-4 lead in the fifth when Nelson singled to left center to score Jake Chapman
  • The Lions pulled three runs back in the top of the sixth after a three run homer to left center made it a 11-7 game.
  • The Golden Wolves grabbed two of those three runs back in the bottom half of the inning after Nelson drove in another two runs after a single to right field plated two and pushed the lead back to six.
  • The Lions hit back with two more runs in the top of the seventh but the Golden Wolves responded yet again with four runs in the bottom of the inning to make it a 17-9 ballgame. Emrich started it with a RBI single through the left side of the infield and then Mike Pulcini stepped up and belted a three run shot down the left field line to make it an eight run ballgame. The homer was Pulcini's first of his career.
  • TCNJ tacked another on in the eighth but Alvernia bounced back with five more runs in the bottom half of the inning thanks to a Glass two RBI double and an Emrich three run homer to left put the Golden Wolves over the 20 run mark with a 22-10 lead.
  • The Lions would score one more in the top of the ninth after a bases loaded hit by pitch but Brad Coley and Logan Solomine would close out the Lions and secure the 22-11 victory for the Golden Wolves.
