Reading, Pa (May 12, 2025) - Alvernia University Baseball had six Golden Wolves earn All-MAC Commonwealth honors for their performances during the 2025 season and junior
Nick Ferraioli was named MAC Commonwealth Pitcher of the Year as announced by the Middle Atlantic Conference Monday.
Ferraioli was also selected to the first team as a pitcher on top of his Pitcher of the Year honor. Ferraioli is the 23rd Of the Year award winner and is the first Pitcher of the Year winner since John Catchmark won Pitcher of the Year in 2019. Fellow starting pitcher Chris Sasso also landed on the first team, junior Matt Mays earned second team honors as a relief pitcher and Logan Nelson was selected as a second team outfielder. Senior Evan Thomas and sophomore Quincy Esannason rounded out the Golden Wolves with All-MAC honors with honorable mention selections.
Ferraioli posted a 3.14 ERA in 2025 with 52 strikeouts, 51 hits allowed, 20 earned runs allowed and issued just 19 walks in 57.1 innings pitched. Ferraioli also tallied a 7-3 overall record with three complete games and one shutout and held opposing batters to just a .249 batting average. Ferraioli led the Commonwealth in ERA (3.14), wins (7), complete games (3) and ranked second in shutouts (1), games started (11) and earned runs (20). Ferraioli's 52 strikeouts ranked him in a tie for sixth most in the Commonwealth, his seven doubles allowed was the fourth least in the conference and he allowed just one triple on the season. This is Ferraioli's second All-MAC Commonwealth selection and second first team selection.
Chris Sasso was also selected as a first team All-MAC Commonwealth pitcher and posted a 3.25 ERA with 61 strikeouts, 39 hits allowed, 19 earned runs allowed and 24 walks over 52.2 innings pitched. Sasso also recorded a 3-3 overall record in ten games started and held opposing batters to just a .203 batting average. Sasso finished second in the Commonwealth in ERA (3.25), opposing batting average (.203), hits allowed (39) and ranked fourth in strikeouts with his 61 K's. Sasso also ranked first in the Commonwealth in total runs allowed with 23 and his 19 earned runs allowed was also ranked in a tie for the least. This is Sasso's first All-MAC Commonwealth selection of his career.
Logan Nelson earned Second Team All-MAC Commonwealth honors as an outfielder in his sophomore campaign. Nelson hit .323 with 41 hits, ten doubles, one triple, one home run and a team high 33 RBIs. Nelson scored 24 runs, worked 13 walks and was hit by nine pitches. Nelson also posted a .850 on base plus slugging percentage, went 9-10 on stolen bases and played in 40 of Alvernia's 42 games. Nelson's 33 RBIs was the tenth most in the Commonwealth and his ten doubles ranked him in a tie for 12th in the conference. Nelson also ranked in a tie for the most sacrifice flies in the Commonwealth with five and his nine hit by pitches ranked him in a tie for the ninth most. This is Nelson's first All-MAC Commonwealth honor.
Matt Mays also received second team All-MAC Commonwealth honors as a relief pitcher for the Golden Wolves. Mays recorded 16 relief appearances for Alvernia during his junior year and posted a 1.74 ERA, a 2-0 record in 20.2 innings pitched and recorded one save. Mays allowed just 13 hits, four earned runs and struck out 17 batters in 2025 and held opposing batters to just a .186 batting average. This is Mays's second All-MAC Commonwealth honor after he was selected as a second team relief pitcher in 2023.
Evan Thomas was selected as an honorable mention third baseman in his senior season and led the Golden Wolves in hits with 48 which ranked him in a tie for the eighth most in the Commonwealth. Thomas batted .320 with 23 RBIs, 25 runs scored, eight doubles, one home run and ten walks. Thomas posted a .781 on base plus slugging percentage, was hit by seven pitches and recorded two sacrifice flies and finished second in the Commonwealth in sacrifice bunts with ten. Thomas also recorded 51 putouts and 56 assists on 118 chances and helped turn five double plays. This is Thomas's first All-MAC Commonwealth honor.
Quincy Esannason rounded out the All-MAC Commonwealth honorees for the Golden Wolves with a honorable mention nod as an outfielder. Esannason played in 39 games and hit .315 with 28 hits, four doubles, two triples and 31 runs scored. Esannason drove in 13 runs, posted a .991 on base plus slugging percentage and worked a Commonwealth leading 34 walks. Esannason also led the Commonwealth in on base percentage with .564 and his .991 OPS was the tenth best in the conference. In the field, Esannason recorded 56 putouts and one assists on 57 chances and was one of nine players in the Commonwealth to finish the season with a 1.000 fielding percentage. This is Esannason's first All-MAC Commonwealth honor of his career.
