Alvernia Takes on Day Two of MAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships

Grantham, Pa. (May 1, 2026) - Alvernia Men's Track and Field had a pair of podium finishes and another pair of Saturday qualifiers through day two of the 2026 MAC Outdoor Track and Field Championship at Messiah University.

Two Alvernia athletes reached the podium on Friday, both coming in the discus. Trip Freitag took seventh in the discus with a personal-record mark of 42.71 meters. Christian Medina joined Freitag on the podium, taking eighth place with a mark of 42.55 meters.

Andrew Simmons won his heat in the 100m to secure a spot in Saturday's final. Simmons' time of 10.9 seconds was the fifth fastest in the 100m preliminaries. Simmons also took 16th in the 200m with a time of 22.70. Simmons was also the final leg of Alvernia's 4x100m relay team that posted a season-best time of 43.50 seconds. Simmons was joined by Joseph Washington, Ethan Marcin, and Heriberto Camacho.

Spencer Hahn also qualified for the 800m on Saturday, winning his heat and posting the top time through preliminaries with a time of 1:53.93. That time was a season-best for Hahn.

Alvernia also had a small group of athletes compete on day one of the championship Thursday afternoon. The men's 4x800m relay team of Hahn, Zachary Wendel, Sam Martinez and James Henry ran a time of 8:19.98, and Ryan Dennison recorded a 34:14.25 time in the 10,000m for the Golden Wolves.

Grant Sharp and Aidan Arnold both competed in the hammer throw on Thursday night. Sharp recorded a mark of 38.62m and Arnold posted a mark of 34.69m. Sharp also competed in the discus on Friday and posted a mark of 36.60 meters.

Alvernia is back at Messiah for the third and final day of action on Saturday.
