Meiskey Rips Rutgers In 7-1 Rout

BOX SCORE

Reading, Pa. (Nov. 12, 2011) - Senior Ian Meiskey (East Petersburg, Pa. / Hempfield HS) blasted home two blue line rockets helping lead the Vern over Rutgers-Camden University.  Meiskey opened the scoring with a right circle drive that went clean into the high right side and finished Alvernia's scoring with an equally impressive laser beam with 27 seconds left in the game. Alvernia's 7-1 romp marks their tenth win of the season.

Additional goal scorers included Patrick Dolan (Cranford, NJ / Cranford HS) connecting for two goals on the night and one helping assist.  Murray's three point evening gave him a “three-star selection”.  The Crusader's also received another outstanding offensive performance from senior captain Christian Baron (Philadelphia, Pa. / LaSalle College HS), he completed his night with one goal and an assist.  Baron, the consummate grinder is a workhorse on both ends of the ice.  An offensive catalyst with a nose for being in the right spot at the right time, he will transition back down ice as a tenacious back checker.  Point leader in his freshman year, Baron is racking up some impressive numbers in his farewell season.

Alvernia received single goals from Jimmy McKelvie (Hatfield, Pa. / North Penn HS) and Eric Pawlick (Cranford, NJ / Cranford HS).  Both freshmen, Pawlick and McKelvie are quickly becoming instrumental pieces in the Crusader's early success this season. McKelvie has stepped up to play defense in the absence of several key defensemen, contributing enormously on the Vern's blue line.  McKelvie, a strong forward possessing exceptional hands and great vision of the ice which has been beneficial in handling the puck while transitioning the defense into the neutral zone play.

Alvernia goaltender Patrick Murray (Cranford, NJ / Cranford HS) collected his fifth win of the season, stopping 19 of 20 shots.
