BOX SCORE 4 Aston, Pa. (Sept. 22, 2014) - Alvernia University (3-0-1) opened its 2014-2015 season with three victories at the Iceworks College Showcase Tournament.
The Crusaders took to the ice four times throughout the weekend, claiming a win on each day. On Friday, Alvernia defeated Old Dominion 9-2. The Crusaders competed twice on Saturday, tying Fordham 3-3 before locking up a 9-5 victory over Bucknell in the nightcap. Alvernia continued solid play on Sunday, surpassing Bloonsburg 7-2.
Throughout the weekend, the Crusaders had a pair of five-goal performance from
Nico Delgiorno and
Ian Meers--who recorded his first career hat trick over Bucknell.
Jim McKelvie and
Brian Callahan also pitched in on offense, netting four goals apiece. McKelvie paired his goals with nine assists, adding 13 points onto his current career record total at Alvernia. Senior Dustin Stuck collected nine points himself, notching three goals and six assists across four games.
Sophomore
Nick Cacace and senior Justin Moshenshy both made the books this weekend, tallying their first collegiate goals.
James Bangar and Mike Durofchak split time in goal. Bangar was 2-0 for the tournament, picking up the wins against Old Dominion and Bucknell.
The Crusaders hit the ice again on October 4th, hosting the University of Delaware in conference action.
