Alvernia Leads After Day One Of Yocum Cup

Reading, Pa. (April 3, 2021) - Alvernia University Men's Golf leads 2-1 after Day 1 of the Spring 2021 Yocum Cup, hosted at Berkshire Country Club for the first day.

Alvernia took matches one and three with the duo Kyung Chung and Tyler Cebular defeating Justin Lancaster and Nick Wolf, 6&5 in match one, and Luke Fagley defeating Pat Lord/Dylan Okonski 3&1. Albright's Russel McPaul and Mike Waugh defeated Alvernia's Joe Polidoro/Nick Varvara 5&3.

Chung and Cebular, who started on hole 17, halved the first three holes with Albright. Chung then birdied on the par 4 2nd to ignite a five point run for Alvernia then was capped off with a birdie by Cebular on the par 3 6th to put Alvernia up +5 on the Lions. The Lions got one back after winning the 7th hole. The next two holes were halved, but Alvernia's Chung birdied 9 to put Alvernia back up five. The Golden Wolves and Lions halved 10, and Alvernia took hole 11 and the match on a birdie by Cebular on 11.

In the Fagley vs. Lord/Okonski match, Fagley took a +1 lead after birding 17. The two teams then halved the next three holes before Albright evened it up with a birdie at 2. Fagley went back up +1 with a par on 3 before Albright again evened it back up after winning hole four. Fagley would win the next two holes to go up +2 and would extend Alvernia lead to +3 after a birdie on 8. Albright cut Fagley's lead down to just one point by the 11th hole, but Fagley extended his lead back to +3 by the 13 hole. He then sealed his match win with a bogey on 15 to top Albright's double.

The Yocum Cup concludes on Wednesday with singles matches.
