Fries and Monroe Take First to Lead Alvernia at Millersville

Lancaster, Pa. (Nov. 17, 2024) - Peyton Fries and Kylie Monroe, both first-years for Alvernia, took first place in their respective weight classes to lead Alvernia at the Millersville Women's Collegiate Open on Sunday on the campus of Millersville University. 

Fries took first place at 207 lbs and Monroe took first place at 145 lbs. Alvernia also had two third place finishers in Abbigail Kohl (138 lbs) and Alana Durham (117 lbs). Macenzie Hunter and Trinity Robinson took fifth place at 131 lbs and 180 lbs, respectively. 

After a first round bye, Fries got her day started with a win by fall in 2:33 and followed that with a 5-0 decision in the semifinals. Fries then took first place with a win by fall in 3:49.

Monroe also started her day with a first round bye before getting to work with a 13-0 win by technical superiority. She won her semifinal match with a pin in just over a minute, and took the 145 lb title with a win by disqualification. 

After a loss in her first bout, Kohl rebounded with three straight wins by fall to take third place. Durham won her first bout of the day, but fell in the semifinals to move into the consolation bracket. She then recorded two pins in the consis to take third place.

Hunter took fifth place via a win by forfeit, and Robinson took fifth with a pin in the final minute of the fifth place bout.

Alvernia is back in action on Wednesday at the Cedar Crest Tri-Match.
