Fries, Hunter Lead Alvernia at PA Women’s Collegiate State Championships

East Stroudsburg, Pa January 26, 2025) - Alvernia University's Peyton Fries recorded a second place finish and Macenzie Hunter tallied a third place finish to lead the Golden Wolves at the PA Women's Collegiate State Championships Sunday at East Stroudsburg. 

Four Golden Wolves placed within the top six and six Golden Wolves recorded top eight finishes. The Golden Wolves took sixth place in the field of 11 with 38.5 points.

How it Happened 
  • Peyton Fries recorded the best finish of the day for the Golden Wolves with a second place finish in the 207 pound bracket. Fries started with back to back pins in the quarterfinal and semifinals to punch her ticket to the championship bout. Fries then fell to Pollack from Delaware Valley by fall in the title bout to secure second place. 
  • Macenzie Hunter recorded a third place finish in the 180 pound bracket for the Golden Wolves. Hunter started her day with a victory by fall in just 16 seconds to advance to the semifinals. Hunter then dropped the semi by fall but bounced back with a victory by fall in the consi semi to advance to the 3rd place bout. Hunter then received an injury forfeit in the 3rd place match as Hunter secured third place honors. 
  • Danielle Ferrara recorded a fourth place finish for Alvernia in the 124 pound bracket and started her day with a victory by fall in 2:59 to advance to the semifinal. Ferrara then dropped the semi by a score of 8-2 but bounced back with a 14-2 VSU in the consi semi to advance to the third place match. Ferrara then fell in the third place match to McCarley from Gannon by fall to receive fourth place honors. 
  • Grace Molloy rounded out the place finishers for the Golden Wolves with a sixth place finish at the 110 pound bracket.
