Hoovler Leads Alvernia on Day Two at Oak Hill Country Club

Pittsford, N.Y. (April 12, 2025) - Alvernia University's Jackson Hoovler led the Golden Wolves on day two of the Fred Kravetz Invitational with a seventh place finish at Oak Hill Country Club's West Course.

Round two of the invitational was played on Oak Hill Country Club's West Course. Oak Hill Country Club has played host to a number of PGA Tour major tournaments including three US Opens, four PGA Championships and also the 1995 Ryder Cup. Although those major tournaments were played on the original East Course, hosting day two of the invitational on the grounds of such a prestigious patch of land brought a major championship feel to the final day of a premiere collegiate golf invitational.

Jackson Hoovler and Shawn Williams led the way on day two and both fired in one over 71s. Matt Davies recorded an 80 in his second round of the weekend and Matthew Gagliardi rounded out the counting scores with an 86.

Hoovler started his day going par, birdie, par but then bogeyed three of his next six holes to card a two over, 37 on the front nine. Hoovler then carded six pars and birdies at the 12th and 14th holes but a bogey on 17 saw him finish with a 34 on the back nine and a 71 on the day to finish in seventh place.

Shawn Williams carded a 13 shot improvement from round one to round two and carded a one over, 71. Williams started his day with a birdie at the first and then ripped off seven pars in his next eight holes to post an even par 35 on the front nine. Williams then tallied three bogeys in his next five holes but squeezed a birdie between them to right the ship. Williams finished his round with three pars and a birdie at the 17th to card a 36 on the back nine and put himself in a tie for 27th place.

Matt Davies carded an 80 on day two and carded four pars on the front nine but bogeys and a big number on six saw him post a 42 on the front nine. Davies bounced back on the back nine with four pars and a birdie to post a 38 and tally an 80 on the day. Davies finished in 35th place.

Jakob Chapman played as an individual for the Golden Wolves and carded a round two 78. Chapman posted three birdies on the front nine but three bogeys and a double saw him card a two over 37 on the front nine. Chapman posted five pars on the back nine but again, big numbers plagued his round and saw him post a 41 on the back and finished with a 78 overall. Chapman finished in 37th place.

Matthew Gagliardi rounded out the counting scores for the Golden Wolves and recorded an 86 on Saturday. Gagliardi was plagued by bogeys on the front nine and only tallied one par for a 43 on the front. Gagliardi bounced back with four pars on the back nine but posted another 43 to finish with an 86 and in 38th place.

Kenton Lightburn rounded out the scores for Alvernia with an 88 and finished in 39th place. Lightburn also was caught on the bogey train on the front nine and carded a 44 and tallied three pars on the back nine for another 44 and posted an 88 overall.

Alvernia is back in action next weekend when they travel to Long Island, N.Y. to the St. Joseph's Long Island Invitational at Bellport Country Club.
