Alvernia Starts Strong at Rust Buster

Reading, Pa. (Dec. 7, 2024) - Alvernia University Men's Track and Field opened its 2024-25 season on Saturday at home as the Golden Wolves hosted the Alvernia University Rust Buster at the Tom and Helen Flynn.

The Golden Wolves opened the season on a strong note - posting six first place finishes, 14 top-three finishes, and seven personal records. 

Luke St. Pierre took first place in the 200m with a personal record time of 22.94 seconds. Ryan Dennison was also Alvernia's other individual first place finisher with a personal record time of 10:36.53 in the 3,000m. The Golden Wolves also had a first place finish out of one of its 4x200m relay teams. The team of Anthony Downs, Ethan Marcin, Daniel Kirn, and Joel Thomas. Thomas secured the first place finish on a diving finish for a time of 1:39.96. Thomas also took first in the long jump with a mark of 6.70m. First-year Leo Tirado had two first place finishes for Alvernia with the top mark in the high-jump at 1.83m, and first in the 60m with a time of 7.23 seconds.

In addition to the PRs set by Dennison and St. Pierre, Alvernia set six more personal records on the day. Zackary Wendel took 2nd in the mile with a time of 4:42.78, and Grant Sharp took second in the shot put with a mark of 13.19m. Caleb Auzenne set a PR in the 200m with a 5th place finish time of 23.95. Ethan Marcin set a PR in his 60m hurdle prelim at 9.79 seconds, and that set a new one once again in the final with a sixth place time of 9.64 seconds. Quinn Harter rounded out the personal records with a mark of 5.16m in the long jump for an eighth place finish.

Alvernia also had top-three finishes from Anthony Downs (200m, 2nd place, 23.55 sec.), James Henry (3,000m, 2nd place, 10:36.62), Quinn Harter (triple jump, 2nd place, 11.12m), 4x400m B relay (2nd place, 3:37.31), 4x200m A relay (3rd place, 1:41.61), 4x400m A relay (3:40.89).

Alvernia has off until the new year and will return to action on January 18th at the Alvernia Winter Invitational.
