Hall of Fame
Billy Cummiskey emerged as one of Alvernia’s most prolific 3-point shooters shortly after the arc was first drawn. Cummiskey was a four year starter who graduated with at least 1,189 career points and 211 3-pointers. He graduated as the game, season, and career record holder for 3-pointers made.
Cummiskey was a member of the infamous Six-Pack Attack team that made a name for itself—and Hall of Fame Coach Jack McCloskey—for taking a 6-man team into several of the Division II gyms in the region and emerging with victory. I am certain he will have more to say about that shortly.
Cummiskey earned All-Conference honors in the Keystone Athletic Conference, the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference, and NAIA District 19. He was also named the Alvernia Outstanding Senior Athlete in 1993.
After Alvernia, Cummiskey coached basketball and baseball for 20 years at the Marlton Rec Council. In 2014 he coached his 8th grade girls travel team to a 30-0 record and a South Jersey Championship. In 2013 he coached his 7th grade girls AAU team to a national championship. In 2001 he was inducted into the Father Judge High School Hall of Fame.
Cummiskey worked 25 years in the Teamsters Union in Philadelphia. His two kids were also successful athletes. Billy was a 4-year basketball and football letterman and Cherokee High School and attended Rowan University. Katie led the Cherokee girls basketball team to a Group 4 State Championship and is currently a freshman at Towson.
