Walker is the only men’s player at Alvernia to reach 1,000 career points and 1,000 career rebounds. He also has the only triple-double in school history. In 1997 he was named First Team All-PAC, First Team ECAC Mid-Atlantic, and Second Team Columbus Multimedia Mid-Atlantic. In 1998 he was a Second Team All-American and earned PAC Player of the Year honors and his third straight All-PAC First Team honor.
At the time of his induction, Walker was 11th in career scoring at Alvernia with 1,312 points. He was seventh in points per game at 15.6, sixth in field goals made with 514, and second in career field goal percentage (.636). His 452 career free throw attempts are fourth, and his 289 made free throws put him sixth. He is the career leader in rebounds with 1,000, the highest ranking big man in assists with 238 (fifth overall), eighth in career steals (115), second in blocks (217), and the career leader in double-doubles with 43.
Originally from Alabama, Walker went to a junior college in New Jersey before transferring to Alvernia. He has stayed in Reading ever since and currently works at the Caron Foundation.
Walker works with city kids in the Blacktop Summer League at City Park as well as with teams at the Olivet’s Boys and Girls Club, and at the 3rd and Spruce Center as a coach and mentor.
While at Alvernia, Walker was a part of teams that did reading projects with kids in the Reading School District. He developed a passion for working with kids and found a home in Reading where he now works to give back to the community.
