Dr. Jim Sutton resurrected Alvernia Cross County as a coach in the early 90s and coached Marie Michalik to the NAIA National Appearance.  He served as the Faculty Athletic Representative and was the chair of the Education Department at Alvernia.  He is a member of the Berks County Chapter, Pa. Sports Hall of Fame (1991), Pa. Sports Hall of Fame (1994) and the Masters Track and Field Hall of Fame (2002).

In 1991 at the World Masters Championship (Turku, Finland) he finished 1st in 800m (2:13.98), 1st in 1500m (4:32.09).  He was the US Masters Track Age Group Athlete of the Year 1986, 1990, 1991, 1996.  He won 50 individual national championship races, holds eight US indoor records, four world indoor records, nine US outdoor records, and two world outdoor records.
