Wade Miller was a member of the Crusader baseball team in 1995. He led the team in strikeouts per nine innings and was named the Alvernia Rookie of the Year. He batted .397 with 32 runs scored, eight doubles, two triples, and three home runs.
He was drafted by the Houston Astros in the 20th round of the 1996 Amateur Draft. In a nine year career with the Astros, Red Sox, and Cubs he earned 62 career wins with 749 strikeouts. He finished the 2001 season with a personal-best 16 wins and 212 innings pitched. That started a string of three straight seasons with at least 14 wins.
Wade returned to Alvernia for the 2012 baseball season as a pitching coach.
